According to rep ( ) the two letters on my barrel (XD) indicate that my shotgun was manufactured in Dec 2008 (which was kind of a bummer the cabelas dude told me it was manufactured in the 80s, but I'm learning now …The hundred or so extra Remington 700's (the c-prefix actions) bought in the early 90's were apparently just regular actions. Not sure if all the M40's were built on the 40X action, as the Corp bought quanties of these rifles through 1971, after the initial purchase of about 750 rifles, the later rifles included several hundred with the early.
